"The firm places a sense of community at the heart of its culture - both in terms of our commitment to one another and our dedication to giving our time and resources in the community."

In 1947, Joe Holland and Steve Hart established a new law firm in Denver to which they brought a strong belief in giving back to the community that had given so much to them. Today Holland & Hart LLP is a firm of over 400 lawyers in fifteen offices. The firm’s commitment to community is stronger than ever.

"I chose H&H because of the great people and balance I encountered here.  Everyone I spoke with in my interviews was engaged in a thriving practice and also had plenty to share about great community and pro bono involvements and their full and fulfilling lives outside the firm.  H&H is a place where the practice of law is still a profession and not just a job, where doing good and doing well are not mutually exclusive propositions."

Throughout the Rocky Mountain West, Holland & Hart attorneys and staff are making a positive impact in their communities through pro bono legal work and volunteerism.

In the firm's 50th anniversary year, as current and retired personnel came together from all offices to celebrate and to do Habitat for Humanity projects in a firm-wide initiative, there was a greater recognition of the undying collective commitment to community service. Current and retired firm leaders realized the value of harnessing the spirit of this unique culture to effect positive change on the greater good of both the internal H&H community and the Rocky Mountain communities where firm offices are located.

Under the leadership of retired partner Sam Guyton and his wife, Jean, and with the support of firm management, the Holland & Hart Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization in November 1998.

The Foundation continues to focus on three primary goals:

Recognize and encourage existing individual and group volunteerism

Support additional opportunities for individual, office and firm-wide volunteer projects

Provide educational programs on topics of interest

One of the goals of the Holland & Hart Foundation is to foster greater workplace community through volunteerism. The Guytons, however, did not realize just how big of an internal impact the Foundation would have at the firm. Attorneys and staff have developed relationships with lawyers and staff in other offices with whom they do not normally conduct business. Administrative staffers have discovered management skills they did not know they had. Offices whose people have been impacted by the challenges of Alzheimers and breast cancer are now helping to educate their communities about such social issues. Some alums and retirees have been active and played crucial roles in project initiation, participation and management.

Many lawyers and staff have been influenced to join the firm in part due to the work of the Foundation.
